Book Club for Girls Grades 3 - 5

Girls Only Book Club News

The Rising Readers Book Club met on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 to discuss the book Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by author Beverly Cleary.  When asked to describe her favorite part of the book, club member Natasha shared a picture that she had drawn in the likeness of the book’s cover, saying that “the entire book was my favorite.”  The girls, who range in age from eight to ten years old, all agreed that they “like Ramona because she goes through the same things that we do.”

Prior to the discussion, the girls enjoyed graham crackers and apple juice, the same snack that Ramona, the book’s main character, ate every day.  The group concluded the session by designing their own “Fabric Scrap Flip Flops” which were reminiscent of the new sandals that Ramona wore in the story that “made her feet look awfully big.”  The books, snacks and craft supplies are provided by the Friends of the Library of Flagler County.

The Rising Readers chapter of the GIRLS ONLY Book club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m. in the library’s Story Hour Room.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.  For more information contact the Children’s Department at 386-446-6763 or by e-mail childrens@flaglercounty.org.
