Flagler County Art League The Altered Books on display in the library this month were created by artists from Flagler Altered Artists - a group created by artist BJ Baughman with the Flagler County Art League that focuses on the many forms and media of altered art. The group meets once per month to discuss techniques, work on collaborative projects, and share ideas and resources regarding the evolving wonderful world of altered art. For more information about the group and how to join us, please visit us on the web at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlaglerAlteredArtists Brochure on Altered Art Program When we alter an unloved and unwanted book we return it to that wonderful state of being rare and irreplaceable. What is an Altered Book? An altered book is an old discarded or damaged book, which is reclaimed and reused as a "canvas" to which you add your own artwork. There are lots of ways to alter a book - you can cut out niches, add pictures or images, draw, paint, chalk, add fiber, ribbon, lace, ephemera, beads - or anything you want to create a "new" book which displays and becomes part of your art. Some books are even made into sculptures. The best thing about altered books is that there are no rules and endless possibilities.
